Wanna make games? Vega’s got a degree for that

Parental units saying you’re never going to amount to anything if you don’t stop playing “those silly games”? Show them this. Vega, the school best known for its design and branding degrees, is going to start offering a Bachelor of Computer and Information Sciences in Game Design and Development next year.

The three-year degree will teach students how to create 2D and 3D gaming content for everything from PCs and consoles to mobile gaming apps and games for handheld devices. So whether you have ambitions of creating the next Flappy Bird or helping a corporate client gamify timesheets, you should be covered.

“Making games is a ‘fun’ science which requires lots of dedication while dealing with complex mathematics, real-time coding, cutting-edge digital art and high fidelity sound,” says, Nicky Stanley, Vega’s national marketing manager.

Vega School logo“Our programme thus facilitates the development of a well-rounded game designer and developer; with a balance of graphic and visual design for games combined with significant programming and database skills, knowledge and insight that will enable our students to find employment in business enterprises as well as further studies in IT or design.”

Of course, being Vega, the degree also includes some brand-building content so that students leave with real-world business-building skills, over and above their ability to code and design.

According to Vega’s website, “students will examine various factors relevant to the computer games industry whilst gaining a broad understanding of the entire computer game development supply chain”.

“The programme thus facilitates the development of a well-rounded game designer and developer; with a balance of graphic and visual design for games combined with significant programming and database skills, knowledge and insight that will enable them to find employment in business enterprises as well as further studies in IT. The programme is contextualised within brand building, affording students the opportunity to integrate their game development with a brand building slant, giving a unique approach to game design and development.”
