There are early adopters, normal people, late adopters and then there are the prehistoric. We’ve got on the of the latter on staff at Stuff Towers, who still remembers more of the old DOS command lines, so don’t feel bad if you fall into the ‘prehistoric’ category. But it’s time for something to change.
That’s because Google’s Chrome browser, according to a blog post from the company, will be dropping support for the older operating systems. Operating system affected are Windows XP, which stopped being officially supported by Microsoft in 2014, Windows Vista, as well as OS X 10.6, 10.7, and 10.8. It’s not unexpected, Google said that this would be happening in April this year, but the time has come. Chrome “…will no longer receive updates and security fixes” on the operating systems above.
We can understand wanting to hang on to what you know but when common software stops being updated for the platform, it’s time to move on. Or you could cling to the past like a limpet on a rock as it sinks to the depths of the ocean (Chrome will continue to work on XP and the rest, it’ll just get a lot less secure over time). It’s your call.
