Given its enormous population, growing connectedness and accompanying appetite for affordable mobile devices it’s no surprise Alcatel OneTouch has decided to take on the Nigerian market with a range of its mobile phones. The company plans to offer a feature phone, a smartphone and a 3G-enabled 7-inch tablet to start with.
First up there’s a the Alcatel OneTouch Pixi 3 smartphone, an entry-level smartphone that includes a 4-inch WVGA touch display, a dual-core 1.0GHz processor, 4GB of storage and 512MB of RAM. It also includes a rudimentary 2-megapixel primary camera and a VGA front-facing camera. The handset is powered by version 4.4 of Google’s Android operating system (KitKat) and supports both 3G and 4G/LTE mobile data connectivity.
Next up there’s the Pixi 3 tablet, a 7-inch tablet that’s also powered by Android KitKat, offers 3G connectivity (alongside the obligatory Wi-Fi), a dual-core 1.3GHz processor, 4GB of storage and 512MB of RAM. Like the Pixi 3 smartphone the tablet is available in white and black.
Lastly, Alcatel OneTouch will also be offering its 1050D feature phone, a simple, no-frills budget phone that includes a 1.8-inch colour display, the ever-popular FM radio, a microSD slot, basic camera and dual-SIM support. It’s also available in black and white.
We’ve been spoilt with Alcatel’s top end devices like the Idol Alpha and have been relatively impressed with what we’ve seen. We’ll have to wait and see if Nigerians take to its devices with sufficient gusto to warrant it rolling out its flagships there.
