HTC’s got a lot to prove with their next handset. They were close to being one of the very best phones of the year for a while but they were quickly outdone by just about everybody. It looks as though HTC have taken those events to heart, as a new leak concerning their upcoming new handset – called the HTC One A9 – gives us some insight into the incoming specs.
And those specs are impressive. HTC’s apparently opting for a deca-core processor for the One A9 (also known as Aero), the MediaTek Helio X20. This comes by way of a benchmark for the device, found and screenshotted from Geekbench, which gives the game away by revealing the 10-core, 1.96GHz processor’s existence in the phone.
The benchmark results (above) also show that the A9 will be arriving with 4GB of RAM in tow. The scores shown are decent enough, with 1,835 for single-core and 5,884 for multi-core – that high number is to be expected with ten cores at the One A9’s command. Even then, it’s only just a little above Samsung’s Galaxy Note 5 which has been scoring just over 5,000 for multi-core performance.
What the actual benefits of a 10-core processor will be remain to be seen and they might be seen sooner rather than later. HTC are going to be hosting an event on 29 September, where they’re expected to make all known. Stay tuned.
