Cell C will buy you out of your contract


Mobile operator Cell C has more than 20 million subscribers, but the bulk of them are prepaid users. In an effort to change this, the company is offering to buy consumers using rival networks out of their existing contracts, up to a maximum value of R10 000.

Those that take up the offer will need to hand over their existing handset but will get a new one in exchange on one of their new Epic contracts. In a dig at Vodacom and MTN‘s recent price increases, the operator says it will also guarantee that the Epic tariffs will not increase for the duration of the new contract.

Cell C CEO Jose Dos Santos says many South Africans feel “trapped in long-term contracts by their providers” and the extortionate cancellation fees operators charge for early termination.

Users can port their existing number and can choose from one of eight new contracts, which range from R69/month for R100 of airtime that can be pend on data or other services, to up to R999/month for an unlimited package.

In order to take up the offer consumers can visit Cell C retail outlets with their existing handset and their most recent contract invoice.
