R2-D2 airplane takes flight over Japan

And now, just because they can, Japanese airline ANA has painted one of its Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner to look like a flying R2-D2.

Yes, Luke Skywalker’s sidekick is being immortalised not as part of an X Wing fighter, but as an entire plane.

As you may know, I’m a big Star Wars fan; and am especially enamoured of R2-D2, the lttle droid who you were looking for.

So here it is, the world’s first fully-functional life-sized R2-D2-painted Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner. A one-of-a kind homage to the hippest of robots in cinematic history.
