Coming to LittleBigPlanet 3 – Hugh Laurie will be joining the cast as villain Newton

We’re huge fans of the LittleBigPlanet series, which allows you to explore some of the quirkiest platforming worlds every to grace the PlayStation as well as mess around in a multitude of user-created levels. So we’re understandably keen on the late November launch of LittleBigPlanet 3 and we’re even keener following the latest from developer Sumo Digital and Sony.

image002House M.D, who is perhaps better known in South Africa for his comedy in the Blackadder series, Hugh Laurie will be joining longtime friend and the narrator of the two previous LittleBigPlanet games Stephen Fry.

Laurie will be taking the role of Newton, the villain of LittleBigPlanet 3. We’re hoping that there will be some verbal sparring between his character and the game’s narrator (Fry) during play.

Laurie said in a statement concerning his first foray into video games that, “It’s not nearly as different as I might have thought 10 years ago; storytelling is storytelling, whatever form it takes and I’m attracted to anything I can do for the first time. This seemed to me to be so completely charming, witty and lovingly done that I was very taken with it.”

Sumo Digital’s creative director Sean Millard added “We were keen to attract the best possible voice talent we could for LittleBigPlanet 3 and who better could we ask for than Hugh Laurie? Hugh brings both the kind of humour and sense of darkness we were going for; we knew he’d be perfect as Newton, plus it pairs him up once again with Stephen Fry!”

We’re going to have to agree with him there, it’ll be fantastic to see the comedy duo together again in what looks to be a fantastic platformer.

LittleBigPlanet 3 is expected to launch for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 on 21 November this year.
