Google officially details the Project Tango dev kit tablet

ARVE Error: need id and provider

Google’s Project Tango is planning on using mobile devices to map areas and some tech outfits have come up with creative uses for the smartphone version of the technology so far (like creating an autonomous drone).

An older report claimed that Google intended to make a tablet version of Project Tango, something that the search giant has since confirmed and Google have also given out specifications for the Nvidia-powered tablet.

The 7-inch development unit features Nvidia’s Tegra K1 processor, 4GB of RAM and a 128GB solid-state drive. Fairly standard specs as far as a slate goes, though the RAM allocation is pretty hefty even so. What is more remarkable are the included camera and depth sensor, which give the tablet the ability to ‘see’ its surroundings.

Now that it’s official, we’re looking forward to seeing what can be done with it. Developers will be able to pick up the Project Tango tab for $1,024 (R11,000 or so) later this year.
