Sony announces the Xperia Z2 – more of the same, just much better

Sony’s latest flagship phone, the Xperia Z2, might have the same look as last year’s Z1 but the company has, instead of focusing on a new look for their phone, worked on upgrading the Z2’s tech to a large extent.

The most important new feature is the display. Sony has moved to a new HD 5.2-inch IPS display called Live Color LED, which will, according to Sony, give their screens a greater range of colour than even the iPhone.

The Z2 sports an upgraded battery, 3GB of memory and a quad-core 2.3 GHz Snapdragon 801 chip. The external parts of the phone are, as we said, pretty much the same as its predecessor, with IP58 waterproofing, glass front and back, and a dedicated camera key.

In terms of photography, the Z2 has the same 4K recording capabilities as most newer high-end smartphones, and has also borrowed the SteadyShot feature from Sony’s Handycam line, which allows for software enhanced image stabilization, which allows for better handheld recording.

The Xperia Z2 will hit the shelves across the globe from March and will sport Android 4.4.
