Google and Motorola have seen the Moto X handset, unveiled officially yesteday at an event in New York, leak from almost every possible source. Images of the device pitched up before the announcement, as did many of the features and specs for the phone.
But the Moto X is now official and we have the sanctioned specifications for you. The Moto X will run a 1.7GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. Them’s tablet specs, almost. The display is a slight disappointment, being a 4.7-inch 1,184 x 720 AMOLED affair with a pixel density of 316ppi. It will support NFC and LTE, with the usual older connectivity options, and features a 10.5 and 2 megapixel rear and front camera.
The shake-for-camera access and voice command features reported earlier were on the money, so there was little in the way of surprises at the announcement. It was also announced that the Moto X would not be making the trip over the ocean, even the UK won’t be getting the handset.
However reports claim that a cheaper version of the phone, the current version of which will cost $199 (R2,000) on a two year contract in the States, will be showing its face in other markets. South Africa will probably get a taste of something new from Motorola with whatever else Google has up their sleeves.
