Sony is believed to be unveiling a new handset, codenamed “i1 Honami”, at IFA in Germany in September this year. The phone, which will likely be a new addition to the Xperia line, has apparently had specifications leak already and one of those specs is a 20 megapixel camera option.
One source claims that the handset will be using a 1/2.3-inch 20.7-megapixel ExmorRS sensor, putting Sony’s phone in the same range as several models of budget point-and-shoot camera. This could see the phone competing with the likes of Samsung’s Galaxy Zoom or one of Nokia’s frankly bonkers photography phones.
The rest of the specs are impressive enough, putting the unnamed handset on a par with Sony’s Xperia Z Ultra for the most part. The display is said to be a 5-inch 1080p Triluminos screen, with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 800 CPU, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage and a hefty 3000mAh battery making up most of the gadgetry powering the phone. Honami is expected to be dust and waterproof as well.
