IT research firm Gartner has released figures for smartphone sales in the first quarter of this year showing that while Samsung and Apple are still the two top contenders in the world smartphone market, Samsung is have the best time of it.
Samsung alone accounted for 30.8% of the global smartphone market, up from 27.6% this time last year. By comparison Apple has seen their share slide from 22.5% to 18.2% in the current quarter.
Operating system distribution is a bit of a no-brainer considering how many different hardware manufacturers are utlilising Android. Apple’s iOS has the same figures for OS reach and smartphone sales in Q1, since they’re the only vendor to offer the operating system. Android, thanks to its wide usage, accounts for 74.4% of all other smartphone operating systems in the first part of this year.
