What do you get when you cross an Oculus Rift VR headset with an omni-directional treadmill?

The Oculus Rift is a virtual reality headset that got its start through a Kickstarter campaign and which is well on its way to becoming a proper gaming product. Now a company called Virtuix is also looking to get a Kickstarter campaign going for an item that could well change the way that games are played, if used in conjunction with the Oculus Rift VR headset.

Virtuix have developed an omni-directional treadmill for use with the headset that would allow first-person shooter games to be played the way that every FPS gamer has secretly wanted to play them. The Kickstarter project is set to launch at around the end of May this year and projected pricing for the Omni treadmill, which uses a sloped surface that looks like a gamepad’s directional button instead of a conventional belt, is sitting between $400 and $600.

Throw in the current $300 price for the Oculus Rift and that’s a lot to spend on gaming. But, as the video below demonstrates, it’s probably worth it to a certain type of gamer.
