It looks like the speculation has come to an end regarding a smaller Surface tablet from Microsoft. Speaking to analysts regarding the company’s Q3 results Microsoft CFO Peter Klein said that the devices are on their way, though he didn’t specify whether they would be carrying the Surface branding.
“[W]e also are working closely with OEMs on a new suite of small touch devices powered by Windows. These devices will have competitive price points, partly enabled by our latest OEM offerings designed specifically for these smaller devices, and will be available in the coming months.”
The move on Microsoft’s part has been expected for some time now, especially in the face of competition from smaller tablets from the likes of Samsung, Apple and Google. Now we’re just waiting on specifications and a launch date.
