The initial report cites people “familiar with the matter” and Facebook has since said that they “do not comment on rumor or speculation.” The source claims that it isn’t clear just how much work Facebook has put into introducing the feature but said that it would not be rolling out any time soon.
If accurate, this report is a sign that Facebook is getting ready to compete more directly with micro-blogging service Twitter. Twitter is perhaps the most direct competition that Facebook has in the mobile space, an area that the company has been pushing more aggressively into of late.
