Update: Toshiba have gotten back to us with the specs for the locally available Satellite U920t hybrid tablet/ultrabook. Prospective buyers can expect a Core i5-3337U CPU, 4GB of RAM and a 128GB SSD drive, powered by a 64-bit version of Windows 8 when the device launches for sale later this month.
Original story: Toshiba’s Satellite U920t hybrid tablet/ultrabook is set to become available in South Africa, carrying a R10,999 price tag for the two-in-one device.
At that price point buyers will have a third-gen Intel Core processor, solid-state hard drive and USB 3.0 at their disposal. When opened the U920t functions as an ultrabook with a complete LED-backlit keyboard but the 12.5-inch 1,366 x 768 touchscreen display can be slid over the keyboard where it functions as a tablet, thanks to the presence of the typical tablet innards (accelerometer, magnetometer, gyroscope and GPS). NFC and a full-sized HDMI port are also packed into the 19.9mm thick hybrid device.
Stuff has contacted Toshiba concerning which CPU will be shipping with the local U920t, as well as the SSD capacity and available RAM, and will update when they get back to us with the exact specs. The ultrabook hybrid will become available in late March this year.
