Sony appears to have sprung a leak somewhere along the line with the publication very recently of an image that shows the company’s next-generation developer unit as well as what may well be the PS4 controller.
Sony is widely expected to announce the PlayStation 4 at an event on 20 February so the image may just steal their thunder a little. The controller has been confirmed by development sources as a recent version created for use with developer consoles though the final retail product may not be identical.
The controller looks to have many of the well-known features from Sony’s older Dual Shock offerings but there are some changes as well. The outline of the device is slightly modified and it is thicker, to accommodate what looks like a small touchscreen that sits above what may be a speaker output like those found in Nintendo’s Wii Remotes.
The blue light above the controller is a bit of a mystery but seems to indicate that the PS4’s controller will have Move support built in from the word go. The PS3’s add-on Move controller uses a similar light when active. Not much can be seen of the controller’s triggers so details of that will have to wait until Sony’s reveal takes place next week.
