One of the unlikeliest petitions to pass before the America government – a request for the country to construct a
new moon Death Star – has actually received a response from the folks who run the country. What’s more it is funny, relevant and goes on to list what the US is doing in space at the moment.
Titled This Isn’t The Petition Response You’re Looking For, the White House has come up with a few extremely good reasons why the country should not be building a space station capable of destroying pretty much everything. Among these is the cost ($850,000,000,000,000,000), the fact that the current administration does not support the destruction of planets and “Why would we spend countless taxpayer dollars on a Death Star with a fundamental flaw that can be exploited by a one-man starship?”
The White House’s response to dreams of a Death Star will probably work because of the response’s title alone (perhaps a hand-waving .GIF is needed) but it does a very good job of reaching out to Star Wars fans in a language that they understand. The closing punt of existing space programs may even gather up a few new recruits for the
Rebel Alliance government agencies.
“If you do pursue a career in a science, technology, engineering or math-related field, the Force will be with us! Remember, the Death Star’s power to destroy a planet, or even a whole star system, is insignificant next to the power of the Force.”
