Highlights of Samsung’s presence at CES 2013 – TVs, cameras, ultrabooks

Samsung has been showing off several different gadgets at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas this year, counting a very large UHD TV, Smart TVs, the new NX300 camera and two new computing devices as the headliners for the event.

Samsung has demoed an 85-inch Ultra High Definition TV, the S9 UHD offering which looks as though it is suspended in a picture frame. The so-called “Timeless Gallery” design for the TV’s mounting, according to Samsung, “showcases the juxtaposition of a minimalist concept with such a large display.” A 95″ and also a 110″ version are promised before the end of the year to boot. Pricing hasn’t been mentioned yet.

Samsung’s F8000 LED Smart TV has also been demonstrated and will be available in models up to 75-inches, with “an ultra-thin profile, a quarter-inch thick bezel and a half-moon shaped Arc stand.” The F8000 is the first Samsung TV to feature a quad-core processor. The Smart TVs shipped this year will all feature Samsung’s S-Recommendation with Voice Interaction, which will “create a personalised menu of on-air, on-demand and app content for each viewer.” The TV’s display can be mirrored on a tablet so watching television can be a more mobile experience in the home and each TV will also feature Samsung’s Smart Hub menu system. The company has also announced the 2013 Evolution Kit, which can upgrade some older Smart TVs to the features and specs of this year’s releases.

The NX300 camera from Samsung packs in a 20.3 megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor, the NX 45mm F1.8 2D/3D lens (billed as the first one-lens 3D system for a consumer camera) and a new Hybrid Autofocus setup. A new range of compact cameras from Samsung was also announced at CES.

Finally, Samsung has unveiled the 15.6″ Series 7 Chronos and 13.3″ Series 7 Ultra notebooks. The Series 7 Chronos will feature a quad-core processor (likely from Intel’s Core i-range), up to 16GB of RAM and a Full HD display (1982 x 1080). Samsung also claims an 11-hour battery life for the notebook. The Series 7 Ultra features the same Full HD resolution, up to 256GB of SSD storage, a Core i5/i7 processor and a 10-point touchscreen.
