Amazon’s 8.9″ Kindle Fire HD has shipped several days earlier than it was supposed to. The original 20 November date has been bumped up by a few days, though the 4G LTE version of the device will still only become available next week.
Amazon Kindle vice president Dave Limp said in a press release “Kindle Fire HD has been Amazon’s best-selling product worldwide since launch, and that was before we even started shipping the best tablet we’ve ever built. With the holiday season upon us, we’re excited to make our $299 Kindle Fire HD 8.9″ available early.”
The 8.9″ Kindle Fire HD features a 1920 x 1200 display (254ppi), a Texas Instruments OMAP 4470 processor and has an advertised 10 hour battery life as well as a front-facing HD camera.
The model currently on sale is priced a $299 (R2,700) and the 4G LTE device on pre-order at the moment is priced at $499 (R4,500).
