Facebook passes 1 billion users


Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg has announced on US television that the social network has passed 1 billion users, according to a report from the BBC.

Statistics given for user activity along with the announcement claims that Facebook users have created 1.13 trillion likes, uploaded 219 billion photos and are responsible for some 17 billion location check-ins to date.

Zuckerburg also posted a status update on Facebook saying “If you’re reading this: thank you for giving me and my little team the honor of serving you. Helping a billion people connect is amazing, humbling and by far the thing I am most proud of in my life.”

Details regarding the mobile side of Facebook, released at the same time, say that there are now 600 million people accessing their accounts via a mobile device. This is an increase of 48 million compared to June this year.
