Microsoft’s appeal against a 2008 European Commission antitrust ruling has been rejected by the General Court of the European Union.
The European Union court has however reduced the fine that Microsoft was to pay as a result of the original ruling, from €899 million to €860 million.
The EU court said, “The General Court essentially upholds the Commission’s decision imposing a periodic penalty payment on Microsoft for failing to allow its competitors access to interoperability information on reasonable terms.”
Microsoft was fined in 2008 for failing to adhere to a prior antitrust ruling which compelled the company to provide API information related to their workgroup server products to competitors.
