Sony and Panasonic team up on OLED TVs

Sony and Panasonic have officially partnered to work on OLED panels for TV sets and large displays, according to a recent announcement from Sony.

The tow companies will collaborate to “jointly develop printing method-based next-generation OLED technology”, which they hope will be ready for low-cost mass production by 2013.

“Sony and Panasonic aim to establish mass-production technology during 2013, by integrating their unique technologies to improve the overall efficiency of development.”

The partnership will put Sony and Panasonic into competition with Samsung and LG, hopefully driving prices for OLED panels down in the process.
