BlackBerry maker RIM’s restructuring is having an impact on other companies as well, among them Celestica which produces handsets for the company. Celestica has announced that it will, over the next three to six months, wind down operations carried out for RIM.
RIM (Research in Motion) accounted for around 19% of Celestica’s revenue for the last quarter, a number that will drop to 0% by the end of this year. The shuttering of Celestica’s operations is understandable however since the components the company makes are primarily for the North American market where RIM has seen significant sales losses.
RIM said in a statement, “We are making changes to our supply chain as part of wider efforts to improve the efficiency and cost effectiveness of RIM’s operations to help meet our strategic objectives and to deliver long-term value to our stakeholders.”
