Scientist at M.I.T are working on a new type of photodetector that is said to be over 1,000 times faster than existing technology.

By using bilayer graphene, which consists of two layers of graphene atoms, researchers have created a temperature-sensitive photodetector but the technology still needs a little work at this point to be viable.

The graphene tech has a high electrical resistance and needs further development before it will absorb enough light to do something useful but the potential applications range from airport body scanners to biochemical weapon detection.

Graphene is at the forefront of a lot of recent tech so we’re expecting this one to hit its stride sooner rather than later
