Dell Windows 8 tablet specs leak

The specs for Dell’s first attempt at a Windows 8 tablet have leaked and they are… mostly unimpressive.

The tablet will reportedly be launching with a 10.1″ display, a resolution of 1366 x 768, 2GB of DDR2 RAM (800MHz) and up to 128MB of SSD storage. It will also feature dual cameras (2 and 8 megapixel front and rear), Intel integrated graphics and a load of optional security add-ons like a fingerprint reader.

The kicker is the processor, which is an Intel Clover Trail Atom dual-core CPU. This means the device will be unable to take advantage of Microsoft’s Windows RT operating system – which is built for ARM CPUs – making the Dell tablet more akin to a netbook than a tablet.

Given how system requirements have gone up on vanilla Windows evolutions each time they are released, a tablet running the x86 version of Windows 8 with these specs is a bit of an unattractive prospect.

Pricing on this unconfirmed tablet is understandably non-existent but it will likely cost more than a similarly set up notebook due to its form factor, making this particular Dell tablet a hard sell. The tablet is rumoured to become available toward the end of this year.
