Facebook is reportedly testing whether it would be possible to make money by charging users to ‘highlight’ certain posts according to a report from Stuff.co.nz.
The feature, where Facebook makes a user’s post more visible on their friend’s Timelines, is apparently being trialled in New Zealand. Facebook spokeswoman Mia Garlick is quoted as saying “We’re constantly testing new features across the site. This particular test is simply to gauge people’s interest in this method of sharing with their friends.”
The company are looking at charging users $2 (about R15) to make a post more prominent but they reportedly considering several other models for the feature, including a free one.
The feature was spotted by an unidentified man from Whangarei, New Zealand, who said that he was offered the opportunity to highlight his status updates and posted images in yellow, for a fee.
