NVidia’s Kepler finally arrives

NVidia’s Kepler GPUs have made it to stores at last, with both the GeForce GTX 680 (desktop) and GeForce GT 640M (notebook) card launching.

NVidia is touting the cards as being the best thing to arrive in graphics since… graphics. The GTX 680 desktop variant is apparently the “Fastest, Most Efficient GPU Ever Built” while the company claims that the GT 640M will bring gaming notebook functionality to Ultrabooks.

“The Kepler architecture stands as NVIDIA’s greatest technical achievement to date,” said Brian Kelleher, senior vice president of GPU engineering at NVIDIA. “It brings enormous performance and exceptional efficiency. Gamers will love the GTX 680’s performance, as well as the fact that it doesn’t require loud fans or exotic power supplies. Ultrabook users will love the GT 600M family for its performance and power efficiency.”

NVidia’s new Kepler cards seem to have the benchmarks to back up their claims but a little hands-on evidence would be nice.
